NEW DELHI: The government has decided to install renewable energy devices at prominent sites and buildings across the country to spread awareness about their use and benefits.

"Renewable energy devices such as solar water heaters and lamps will be installed at places and buildings of national and international importance to showcase the use of clean energy and how they supplement the use of conventional energy," New and Renewable Ministry officials said here.

"A large number of people visit these places. So, they would be able to see that how renewable energy can provide them clean and green energy," they said.

Places to be covered under the scheme include Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, Raj Ghat, Raj Bhawans, world heritage sites, assembly premises, national parks, tourist and religious places. Buildings where the devices will be installed have been divided into four categories.

"Buildings in category-I include Rajghat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House in Delhi, Presidential Retreat Building at Mashobara, Shimla and Rastrapati Nilayam, Bolarum in Hyderabad, Raj Bhawans and the 27 world heritage sites. They will be covered first as they attract the highest number of visitors," the officials said.

They said the Centre would provide an assistance of up to Rs one crore for meeting the procurement and installation cost of the devices and maintenance.
