Sep 23, 2009 - Indian Express
GURGAON: A recent study claims that fuel worth nearly Rs 24 lakh is wasted daily due to the traffic mess on the Cyber Greens road in Gurgaon, which houses the Indian headquarters of major multinational companies like Microsoft, Sapient, Philips, ESPN and PriceWater House Coopers among others.
According to a press release, the study had been conducted over a period of 15 days by the Gurgaon Action Task Force, a joint venture of several companies located in Cyber Greens Area and Center for Transforming India (CFTI), a Gurgaon-based NGO.
"On-field observers were placed at various locations on the stretch for effective on-site observations. It is estimated that there are close to 50,000 office-goers who use cars to come to offices located in the region. However, the study has considered only 30,000," the statement maintains.
Pankaj Sharma, chief trustee, CFTI, said according to rough estimates, the entire city loses about $200,000 every day due to poor roads, traffic jams and other traffic-related issues.
